Saw this in theaters, which i believe makes a huge difference in viewing experience and perception. I'm also hit or miss with Paul Thomas Anderson movies, but the onces i do like, i love. That being said, i absolutely loved this one. The first part of the movie didn't hook me, but once the pace picked up in the present i had so much fun watching. There is a huge jumble of themes baked into the movie, but i felt they all fit for the most part. And the fact that the creeps in the other comments here seem to dislike the movie is a testament to it imo.
People saying this is a bad movie or nothing happens, that is a subjective opinion. Those people probably wouldn't like a film like Babel which followed a similar format. I think its fair to criticize how well House of Dynamite did the format and narrative structure, but in my opinion, i was heavily invested throughout the entire movie and have been thinking about it non stop since. The acting is great, the tension is wild, and the message is clear even if some lower tolerance viewers don't see it.
saw this in theaters. curious to see how it translates to a home watch. the film was definitely a sensory experience in the theater with the sound being a big part of the production. if you're watching, have a good audio setup or use headphones to try and get the intended experience.
Saw this movie in theaters. Theres been a lot of mixed reviews, but i really loved it. Its not really scary, but it is immersive. I genuinely felt like i was in the time period and the geography of the place. It was a lot of fun to watch. Not everyone's cup of tea though
Saw this in theaters, it was honestly one of the best movies i've seen in an actual theater in years. The staging is phenomenal, every frame/shot is like a beautiful portrait. The suspense and tension with all of the machiavellian politics and maneuvering throughout the film made for a wild ride. Doubtless the usual suspects on here will take issue with the film (the ending for anyone who's seen it). But I thought they did an amazing job at portraying both truly Catholic themes as well as the inseparable politics and scheming that can corrupt any institution.
The bar is apparently low for some people to hate. I think this shows got huge potential. I read Dune and saw both movies and found both to be boring despite find elements of it interesting. The first episode of Prophecy hooked my attention a bit more. It had me thinking about season 1 of The Witcher and Wheel of TIme, both deal with sorceresses and sisterhood but both ended up falling flat in their own ways. I thought the first episode struck all the right tones and im interested to see where it goes.
