I loved Dune Part One, but found Part Two really disappointing. I thought Part One had great pacing and introduced us to the world and conflicts really well. Part Two felt rushed - like they initially made a 4 hour movie that they then had to cut down to 2.75 - with little explanation for what was going on, character arcs that were more like right-angle turns, and jump cuts that were confusing as to what was happening and how much time had elapsed. For example, early on Paul is sent by Stilgar to cross the desert by himself. (Why does he have to cross the desert alone? Who knows, the movie doesn't say.) We see Paul walking off into the desert, with Chani watching him from a great distance. That cuts to Chani with Paul, teaching him to sand-walk. That cuts to Chani showing Paul water harvesting systems. What ever happened to Paul crossing the desert by himself? Story and character development seem to take a backseat to fight scenes and special effects. In-world logic is remem
The movie starts out as a rather enjoyable James Bond-style spoof - amusingly over the top - but then progressively gets more and more ridiculous while becoming less amusing. By the end it becomes completely preposterous such that all of the early enjoyment is sucked away. I could look past the ridiculous plot if it was funny, but what few laughs were found early on are discarded in favour of increasingly ridiculous situations that were more boring than funny.
Really disappointing as it wasn't funny or interesting. The leads were exaggerated to the point of being unlikable and unrelatable, and jokes were really dumb to the point where they weren't funny at all, just dumb. The main plot device is setup where principle wants to expel them for hurting the quarterback, but as soon as they say that it was for a fight club, all is forgiven and he lets them go. Everything is exaggerated to the point where it makes no sense, it's not funny, not clever, not witty, just dumb.
Great video and audio quality, shame that the movie was a huge disappointment. The writers tried so hard to be shocking that they forgot to be funny. If you've seen the trailer, you've seen all the funny jokes, and all that's left is a mediocre drama.
