Another movie that had the potential to be good... but direction, writing, continuity, and budget killed it. Can you watch it. sure. and if you really don't pay attention it could be OK. But if you DO pay attention, then, it's just stupid.
If you want action, you get action. John-Wick-style, bodies-piled-high, action. Dominique (Oksana Orlan) is a 5'11" Ukrainian with automatic weapons and a severe attitude problem. Filmed in Columbia, with about 50% of the film in Spanish... even if you do not speak Spanish or watch the subtitles you will clearly understand the action. Could have gotten a better rating with a bigger budget and better writing... but they definitely did VERY well with what they had.
Here is the thing: This is really a fantastic movie... I would even say that possibly the best this year. But as with all great sci-fi, there is a LOT of the story that you need to know. If you are new to the Alien / Weyland-Yutani universe, then this is the order of the films to watch to get you here. Find a big screen TV and binge away! * Prometheus (2012) * ALIEN: Covenant (2017) * ALIEN (1979) * ALIEN: Romulus (2024)
I had meant to watch this show when it came out... or when I first downloaded it... but now that I have finally gotten around to doing so, I'm glad I did. As with many Sci-Fi series, there is an ongoing drama to the story, as it does need to engage you... But the premise of the story is good, the characters dealing with the situation is well played, and now in the middle of season 3, the episodes have been great to watch. Regarding the genre: Gene Roddenberry described "Star Trek" (TOS) as a space Western (or, more poetically, as "Wagon Train to the stars")... and with "Dark Matter" you again have a space western, but this time it is "The Magnificent Seven". More than this I won't say, but if you like episodic Sci-Fi you will find this a good watch.
Great F'in Flick!!! Just a TON of easter eggs from the previous films... Like really, where do you get a pair of red and white Reeboks in 2024? Great setup, excellent story, lots of action in the Weyland-Yutani universe.
Sometimes, a nice story is just a nice story to watch. (My wife being a fan of penguins) While Jean Reno played the part well, I really think that it would have better been portrayed by a Brazilian actor. But it did not detract. One quick comment, @fusspot - My wife and I lived in Brazil for a time, on the ocean just to the north of where this happened. We have been to Cabo Frio and Ubatuba (the area where that took place). And I can tell you, as we were sitting on the beach in Barra da Tijuca we saw a penguin swimming in the moderate sized breaking waves, as the waves were coming toward the beach. It was as if it was surfing underwater through the wave rather than on it. It looked like it was having great fun. So, a 5000-mile penguin journey? I can tell you it's very possible.
Fun miniseries! I downloaded the season, as there are only 6 episodes. My wife and I already binged episodes 1-4, and we're making side bets on the outcome. the last two tomorrow, I'm sure. No, I won't give away the plot or the show so far, but it makes for a good viewing. Recommend!
It was... I thought... It felt... it... awww... face it, we all really wanted it to be good. It was more like the writer was on acid, and the director thought that idiotic rambling was visionary, so he filmed it in dark settings to add to the... cinematic experience. In short: crap. Vogon poetry would be a better way to spend your night.
The stories are passible, and generally stick to the expected history of Laura Croft. But the animation is about par with the 1970's/80's Kimba The White Lion. 4 because of that... nearly a 5 as it is watchable. But if you think that you will see an animated action version of a young Angelina Jolie... no.
re: OLED - yes, it is an AWESOME screen. True Black Blacks. And as @Admin said OLED doesn't use backlight but instead uses pixels that individually light. BUT... there are two things that are NOT so great about OLED. 1) just like the older plasma screens, OLED is an energy hog, managing all those pixels. 2) if you watch a LOT of movies and TV, then falling asleep with a static screen will STILL cause burn-in on an OLED screen (even though they have attempted to minimize the possibility). With #2, this I know. a $2000 LG OLED TV now has totally farked colors due to that. Don't make that mistake. I ended up replacing that 65" OLED with an Hisense 85" backlit, and it was $1400 less with great results. (Sometimes the "best" can really suck.)
@admin - The [delete] button doesn't seem to work as expected. For me. on Android or Win11. And on this comment thread, if you [edit] then it doesn't edit the comment you wish to edit... it edits the last comment made. I get that you are trying to use a program that isn't built to have a longer discussion thread, but I'm just letting you know. (how I know: I tried to delete the dupe shorter "donate" observation, but instead it edited the longer later one with the "Van Gogh" comment. Just more stuff to add to the to-do list... right? ;)
@admin - today, i checked watchsomutch on my phone and saw the donate option. However, that option (or other menu items) are not seen on a ms chromium edge browser in Win 11. The menu list ends there at "comments"
Guys - Satire! I had actually written a really detailed response that expanded on the Admin's comment (being the detailed tech nerd that I am) and then, realizing I had WAY over-nerded, I added the second comment... which (darn it all) over-wrote the first tech-nerd-comment (which, according to Admin, should not have happened in this thread, but I overlooked the check-mark). So yeah, I got all the ideas and more from the BBC. They compile a list of the running conspiracy theories. I was shocked (shocked!) at the wack-a-doo stuff out there. Of course, I had to smile as I was then chided for my "political discussion" by @KingAds, who spends a lot of his time in a socio-political battle with @LadyJ. Serious pot/kettle there "bro". If you think I take any of that seriously, no way... and if YOU do, man! I would be speechless. Life is short. Smell the flowers, take vacations, laugh at buffoons. it helps the blood pressure.
