@breathedirt - Lighten up, Francis. It's just a movie. Go Nazi out somewhere else. As a Roman Catholic of some renown, I found it enlightened in its references and fitting in the tale being told. A false prophet was disposed, greed was halted, and hate was shown not to be the way of faith. Maybe the issue is you?
@PirateBob - funny thing: The folks are MOST outspoken about DEI or SO OPPOSED to having race be any criteria at all... are usually the first to call out and condemn a film that might have a black actor in it. It must be very nice being a majority in a racist world. For you. But that's not the world, Bob. People, black, white, green, whatever, are just trying to live and make it to the next day. Until they run into racist jerks. You make the world a worse place by being in it. If there is a place like heaven, you won't be in it, because people like you make it hell for others here.
@bohan & @Burninheaven - We are SO glad you two have found each other! It is SO nice when two white male basement-dwelling Christian-sharia misogynistic incel keyboard warrior snowflakes get to bond over their hatred of other humans. Pfffffft.
@PirateBob said: " Now we get NewSpeak movie summaries".... This is the challenge with some who consider themselves conservative: Words that are in common use since 14th century English are now supposed to mean something else. Face it Bob - This wasn't an issue until religion and politics joined forces in propaganda to infuriate folks like you. "Origin, Latin, fetus - Late 14c. origin from Latin fetus, meaning "offspring or embryo," derived from PIE root *dhe (i)- "to suck," referring to young in womb or egg."
@bohan - Be careful asking that question! I asked that question (as through just observation here, it seemed that SO many are soft porn)... and I was banned from making any more comments!!! And THAT'S why my username now is "Return-of-the-Pope"... because "The-Pope" was silenced. Excommunicated, as it were.
@Kygun - Dude. You got a lot of anger. Sounds like you are gonna grow up to be one of those school shooter folks. Chill. Take a minute to consider: The Founding Fathers who created America were liberals. What did they accomplish? A new country. A land that welcomed people from different countries. They created a Constitution and lived by it. They had a President who accepted the job and walked away instead of seizing power. They inspired more countries to seek a democracy. They argued but worked together! All of this was done by a bunch of Americans who thought that there had to be a better government than what they had. The ultimate liberals, our Founding Fathers: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, John Adams, John Jay, and Samuel Adams.
@ Kydum - What the hell are you going on about??? Are you just typing random brain diarrhea? The movie is about a Chilean winning the lottery. If you have to ramble on with your racist and hating musings thinking that others support you, go elsewhere. Remember that the greatest commandment is: Love Your Neighbor!
@howaboutno said: "woke garbage". WTF does that even mean" It's easy: Take pretty well everything in "The Sermon on the Mount " and you'll find that those that rant about "woke" are against it. Greed, selfishness, hate, all the faults of humanity, they cherish. Because they have been told that an ignorant orange-faced lying adulterer has been sent by God to save them. And that someday they too will become billionaires by giving billionaires tax cuts today. In short, suckers.
@WankSpank sez: "...ends up being more about what they endured than about what they accomplished." Isn't that the summary of war from everyone that fights in one? Long periods of mind-numbing boredom injected with moments of abject terror. We learn nothing from every war fought. Except how to make better weapons for the next one.
As a Roman Catholic, I can honestly say: Meh. Is this a view into what happens when a pope dies? Sure. But none of that is a secret or unknown. Votes happen; smoke is black until a pope is selected then it's white. OF COURSE politics is involved. All religion is politics and power. Duh. As to the quality, sure. Everyone is dressed as they should have been. Again, no surprise there or difficulty in costumes. And it's obvious that if you hire quality actors you will get quality results. I will say the cardinals-with-umbrellas scene was a striking visual... but unless you have had no experience with the church, then this is a snoozefest.
Ya'know... it's funny how one young woman's lie of: "No mom, I don't know how I got pregnant... I never slept with ANYBODY!" would end up with all this hullabaloo. So: she denies that she had sex. OK, sure. But the key is she stuck to the story. Deny, deny, deny, no matter what. Now imagine: a kid growing up in a home where the mother CONTINUES to insist that she didn't have sex, and on top of that saw a shit-ton of angels (... which no one else saw). I would think that kid would grow up a bit wacky, being told that angels announced his pregnancy (according to his mom, of course.) And if it worked for her, well, then GO with it! Sure beats carpentry as a gig... I mean, look at how many "motivational speakers have found a way to make money without working today... prolly worked well for free food and lodging 2000+ years ago as well. Still, me, sitting in the popemobile with my red slippers... beats working.
