This is addictive viewing. The acting is superb, especially the kids. The story is layered and the characters are solid and fleshed out. This isn't just jump scares, when it starts scaring, it is [as somebody below said], relentless. For me they have successfully created the bones with which to hang the familiar body of Derry on. A worthy addition to the book.

I agree with you on Guy Pearce. I was never really a fan, I think the Aussie Soap Neighbours ruined a lot of future stars for me, but then I saw him recently in the movie Brimstone and it was during that one church scene when I was thoroughly convinced that Guy Pearce is, a psychotic Dutch Preacher [Amen].

I like isolation movies, expansive backdrops, snow, desert, ocean, space, so this as slow as it was, was entertaining for me. It's a pity the trailer gives away too many clues to the plot, don't watch it if you want a mystery to stay, mysterious.

Totally agree with khantzwin. I saw this around the time it came out and it has remained one of my favourite movies ever since. Great dialogue, brilliantly written by Mike Leigh, convincingly stone cold delivered by David Thewlis, all captured with close up gritty realism by Di#k Pope. Everyone involved in this movie was at the very top of their craft. [It wouldn't let me write the name of the Cinematographer] I forgot to add, none of this would have been as good without the film score.

I came in a little hot on this one. I did try to delete my criticism 2 minutes after I pressed send, but as often as I pressed delete and it exclaimed 'deleted', it would still be there when I logged out, and so it sits there still, like a rain cloud on an otherwise sunny day. I've become hyper critical about movies in my older age, I'm finding it harder to lose myself in films as I once did. It's not that this is a particularly bad film, it's not, and as far as a tale to be spun out of nothing into something goes, it spins it well enough.

I agree with everything psarri72 said. I didn't finish it because of the many flaws. It seemed like 'somebody' decided to scrimp on the details in favour of a mediocre story. I didn't like Cry Macho for many of the same reasons, some of the street scenes with background actors were comically bad. The details, no matter how small, count for the overall effect to convince us. I too am a fan of Clint, but the devil is in the detail, and his latest stories are just outlines with no meat on the bone. Thoroughly unconvinced.
