An interesting premise and some decent acting ruined by an intrusive soundtrack. It's like being trapped in a car with the radio tuned to the crappiest station in town.
Great performance from Pike (as usual) and the male lead was equally as good. The story may get a little thin from time to time but the director will throw a curve and shut you up right quick. The MP4 was well suited to my old computer and although the scene might get dark on occasion, you could still follow the action, what there was of it. Not the best movie I've seen this year, but pretty close.
@unruly-flat-earth - Oh noes!!! A completely imaginary creature does not conform IN EVERY RESPECT to my preconceived notions. Why didn't the producer contact ME before getting the computer nerds to generate such an anatomically fake unicorn? which, I repeat, is a completely imaginary creature that must be depicted using my imagination alone.
Supposedly a Yify torrent, but I believe it was appropriated by the Russians and overdubbed very poorly. At times the original German audio leaks through faintly, just enough to irritate you. If it is indeed Yify, his quality has gone way downhill. This is more along the lines of those VIRUSE abominations. Shop around for a better version.
Your basic miniseries, telling half a dozen different stories at the same time, but this one pads it out with long, and I mean looooong, takes of actors staring purposefully into the distance accompanied by rousing music. I counted one stretch of fourteen minutes of soaring violins with brass counterpoints and not a single word of dialogue, and then they started rolling the credits. A thin story watered down until it becomes invisible.
I only watched the first episode of S04. Poorly researched, poorly written, poorly acted. Breathless declamations of mindless speculation. Perfect for the 21st century. Enjoy.
This one looks like it was inspired by an old Twilight Zone episode but they took it down a different path. It's a fine little movie, nothing earth-shaking, but well-written, well-acted, well-directed. My only complaint would be that the lighting is a little dark at times, but that seems to be the rage of the age and I'm just out of step again
It's not Pixar, but the animation is so well done, so smooth and thoughtfully framed, you won't care. It's a very emotionally satisfying story with only a few missteps. Well worth it considering some of the grave mistakes I have downloaded lately.
There are some interesting moments in this film, but there are many stretches of quite ordinary storytelling, and something else that seems to be getting more frequent these days: stopping the story so we can listen to a song while one of the actors practices making acting faces. You could lop off half an hour of runtime if you got rid of the songs and you'd have a tighter story. Of course then I'd be griping about a movie that barely lasts an hour.
This is like a Lifetime horror. It's a shrug in the shape of a movie. Jane and Bosworth do their best but it all ends up just too cute to be scary. The kid was a bit hard to understand with his little peeping voice, but that's probably my ears.
This is a rather bland effort. The actors give it the old college try but there's just not much to work with. From about the one-hour mark to the end, the real star of this movie is the baby. That kid never shuts up and the director treats us, every five minutes, to another round of prerecorded squalling for some Godawful reason. What, you thought we forgot? We know she has a baby, let's move on. No, I don't have any children.
I read a review that said "If you've seen Cube, don't watch this. If you haven't seen Cube, watch Cube instead." That's probably good advice. I found the film very uneven, the writing sloppy at times, the acting embarrassing at times, but occasionally a scene that was competently written and acted, to keep you on your toes I guess. I wouldn't recommend it, but there are much worse choices out there.
Yes, I remembered ViruseProject and dodged that bullet, although I doubt it would have made a difference if the dialogue was in Russian, English, or Lower Slobberspit. This was just a confusing mess. I tried watching it two times and am forced to conclude that I just don't have what it takes to tolerate crap like this
Propaganda and a good story seldom mix well and this is no exception. That the story isn't all that good doesn't help. This is simply your typical revenge movie overlaid with the good guy/bad guy motif applied to the Ukraine conflict. Ukrainians are all sweetness and light, Russians are only shaped like humans, and the witch is there to make sure everything turns out all right. Very basic, very heavy-handed, but given that a Ukrainian filmmaker did this in the middle of a shitstorm, kind of remarkable.
